Granville and the Chausey Islands
Perched on its rock, Granville’s Upper Town reveals ramparts, granite houses and striking sea views. Below, the port stirs with the rhythm of some of Europe’s strongest tides. From there, a boat sails to the Chausey Islands, a granite archipelago where walking together at low tide, between coves and heathlands, makes an unforgettable date. Christian Dior, a child of the town, found all his colours there.
Cherbourg and the Cité de la Mer
In the north of the department, Cherbourg is famous for its great transatlantic port and its colourful parasol. The Cité de la Mer, housed in the former transatlantic terminal, tells the story of the Titanic and holds the submarine Le Redoutable, which you visit together along its narrow passageways. The lanes of Old Cherbourg and the marina then invite a seafood dinner on a terrace.
Carteret, Barneville, Coutances
On the Côte des Isles, Carteret and Barneville line up fine-sand beaches, dunes and lively markets, perfect for a quiet weekend. A little inland, Coutances surprises with the Gothic finesse of its cathedral. On Lyad, members from the Manche share their favourite beaches and seafood restaurants; it is up to you to find someone to dip your toes into the cool water with.
